On Saturday, May 16, 2020, Wesley D. Monroe, loving husband and father passed away at age 76.
Wesley was born on March 13, 1944 in Queen City, Texas to the parentage of Tommie Lee and Mozell Robertson Monroe. He accepted Christ at an early age. He received his education at Dunbar High School in Texarkana, Texas. After graduation he attended Prairie View College. After leaving Praire View, Wesley enlisted in the United States Army. After his honorable discharge, he was employed by the Cotton Belt Railroad for many years. He married Emma Champion. After retiring, Wesley's past time was recycling and working on his 61 Chevy truck, which was his pride and joy. While driving that old truck he felt like he was driving a new one. He had mechanical knowledge and enjoyed working on old vehicles.
He leaves to cherish and treasure his memories: wife: Emma Monroe; Daughters: Carolyn (Gregory) Givans of Texarkana, TX., Christi (Christopher) Butler of McKinney, TX.; Sons: Fred (Joyce) Monroe of Texarkana, TX., Orlando Champion of Dallas, TX.,Quincy Kinchen of Richardson, TX.; Grandchildren: Timothy and DeNerica Yarbrough, Javonte and Taylor Givans, Britannia Champion, Bryson Brown, Ciara and Catelyn Butler, Kayla, Jordan, and Kason Champion, Keiza and Danaka Kinchen; Great granddaughter: Ivyana Givans; Brothers: William (Brenda) Monroe of McKinney, TX.,Kenneth Monroe of Dallas, TX., Milton (Dana) Monroe of Winston Salem, North Carolina; Sisters: Lillie Monroe, Janice Jamison, Tammie Monroe and Marilyn Monroe of Texarkana, TX., Lois Smith of Fort Worth, TX., and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, a brother, maternal and paternal grandparents, and a daughter.
Services will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2020 at 12:00 P.M. at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Rosemound Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be RoDaniel Edwards, Jerome Simmons, Choya Horn, Miracle Hendrix, Randle Dugan and Fred Monroe. Honorary pallbearers will be Lawrence Neal, Willie Blow, Robert Harris, Anthony Henry and Medley Wilson.
