Charlie Ray Champion, 72, of Commerce passed away at the VA Hospital in Bonham on Friday, June 11, 2021.
Charlie was born February 13, 1949 in Commerce, Tx to the parentage of Alfred G. Champion and Allie Mae Terry Champion. He was one of eight children. He received his formal education at Norris and Commerce High Schools. After leaving high school, he married Emma Edwards and enlisted in the United States Army, where he received an honorable discharge. Later, he was employed by the Cotton Belt Railroad and Sherwood.
He was preceded in death by his parents, maternal and paternal grandparents, a son, two brothers and a sister.
He leaves to treasure his memories two brothers: Earl Champion of Commerce Tx; Kenneth Champion of Commerce; two sisters: Carolyn Monroe of Commerce, Tx; Evelyn Sweet of Crockett, Tx; one son: Orlando Champion of Dallas, Tx; three daughters: Brekeena Champion of McKinney, Tx; Christi Butler (Christopher Butler) of DeSoto, Tx; Amber Garcia of Kileen, Tx. Grandchildren: Britannia Champion and Bryson Brown (Brekeena), Ciara Hollford and Catelyn Butler (Christi), Kayla Champion, Jordyn Champion and Kason Champion (Orlando). Also, a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Viewing will be held on Friday, June 18, 2021 from 9:00 A.M. until 4:00 P.M. at Jones-Walker & Son. Funeral service will be Saturday, June 19, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church with burial following at Rosemound Cemetery.
