Rickey Darron Richardson, a revered figure known for his dedication to community, family, and sport, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2026, at his residence. Born on April 1, 1968, in Paris, Texas, Rickey lived a life marked by commitment and spirited engagement, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.
He married Michele Taylor on August 23, 1997 in Paris, Texas, a union that spanned nearly 29 years.
A graduate of Gunter High School, Rickey furthered his education and athletic pursuits at Paris Junior College, where he demonstrated his passion for baseball. His love for sports extended into his professional and personal life through over three decades as a beloved softball coach. Rickey’s coaching was distinguished not only by skill but also by his unwavering commitment to helping his players achieve their fullest potential.
Rickey's career in the automotive industry spanned more than 30 years, culminating in his role as Sales Manager at Matthews Honda in Paris. His leadership and dedication in the car business earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues and customers alike.
An outgoing and forthright individual, Rickey was known for his very competitive nature and his honesty—qualities that defined his interactions and leadership roles. He lived by the inspiring motto, "Always leave it better than you found it," a principle that shaped his contributions to education and community. He was especially proud of his service on the school boards of Paris Independent School District and North Lamar Independent School District, where he worked tirelessly to enhance educational opportunities for youth.
Rickey is survived by his loving wife, Michele, his cherished children: Reagan Minter (Adam), Macy Floyd (Keller), and Ashleigh Johnson (Heidi). He also leaves behind his beloved granddaughter, Megan Joyce Minter (MJ), who brought immense joy to his later years. His family circle includes his mother-in-law, Donna Davis, and father-in-law, Harold Davis, along with a very special aunt and uncle, Vicki Crawford—who he regarded as a second mother—and John Boggs. Special cousins Cayla Norwood, Cade Crawford, and Hunter Lovelady, together with numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces, also carry his memory forward.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Joyce Laverne Lovelady Richardson; father, Larry Leon Richardson; and grandparents Lonnie Leon Richardson and Ida Pauline Richardson, as well as grandmother AvaNell Toon.
Rickey Darron Richardson’s legacy is one of spirited engagement, unwavering honesty, and heartfelt commitment. His life embodied a pursuit not only of personal success but of meaningful impact. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him, and his memory will continue to inspire those who carry forward his values of kindness, competitiveness, and community stewardship.
Visitation for Rickey will be held Tuesday night, June 9, 2026 from 6-8 p.m. at His Place Fellowship, 925 Tx. Hwy. 24 Paris, Texas and his funeral services will be held at the same location on Wednesday June 10, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. with Bro. Terry Bryan, Bro. Kevin Towery and Bro. Corey Jones officiating. Those serving as pallbearers include: Cade Crawford, Hunter Lovelady, Paul Stephens, Stacy McNeal, Kyle Smith and Kevin Towery. Ed Naudin and Paul Camacho will be honorary pallbearers. Interment will follow the service at Evergreen Cemetery in Paris.
The family has requested that all flowers be sent to His Place Fellowship or donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
