Maxine Evans

Maxine Evans, 82, of Commerce passed away in Greenville, TX, on Saturday, August 21, 2010. She was born on September 4, 1927, to Maurice T. Hughes and Fannie Little Hughes in Corpus Christi, TX.


While living in Dallas, Maxine was an active member of the Park Cities Baptist Church. She Was a member of the Garden Club and the Temco Comet Club, an organization for the wives of the Temco employees. While living in Garland she was active in the PTA for her children that were in school at the time. When she moved to Commerce in 1963 she continued in the PTA as more of the children started to school. She was a devout Christian and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Commerce where she was a Sunday school teacher and active in the WMU. She was also the President of the Womens Culture Club of Commerce from 1998 to 2000.


But, even with all her community involvement and church service, Maxine loved being a wife, mother, and "Nana" more than anything.

Maxine is survived by her husband, Gary Evans of Commerce; her children: Randall and Dee Evans of Heath, Russell and Debbie Evans of Nashville, TN, Marla Evans of Roanoke, TX, Roger Evans of Lebanon, TN, and Ron and Kathleen Evans of Rockwall; her grandchildren: Lori and Rob Furlow of Nashville, TN, Crystal Evans of Nashville, TN, Brittany Evans of Dallas, Ryan and Tiffany Evans of Cumby, Casey and Sarette McMurry of Honolulu, HI, Matthew McMurry of Grapevine, Hayley Chapman of Roanoke, TX, Keisha and Jeramy Edwards of Commerce, Sam Evans of Rockwall, Molly Kate of Rockwall; and 8 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be conducted at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery on Thursday, August 26, 2010, at 2:15 P.M.

Visitation will be held at Jones-Walker & Son on Wednesday, August 25, 2010, from 6:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M.

In lieu of usual remembrances, the family has requested that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of Commerce, 1401 Washington Street, Commerce, TX 75428.
