Kent Demoy Humphries of Springtown Tx passed away peacefully at his home July 12 th , 2026 at the age of 81. He was born in Commerce TX on February 3 rd , 1945 to Alvin Riley and Minnie Excel Humphries. He was raised in Commerce with his parents and older sister Virginia, and older brother Danny.
Kent graduated from Commerce High School in 1962, and later attended East Texas State University (ETSU). Kent was the proud father of three children, Jodie, Jefferson, and Louisa. Early in his working years, Kent held a variety of jobs. He worked TP&L in Decatur, Sherman, Sulphur Springs, and Dallas; sold cars with James Wood in Decatur TX; drove a grain truck for Hill Grain in Commerce. He ultimately found his calling in the railroad industry, where he dedicated 35+ years as an engineer with Union Pacific Railroad. His railroad career began in Commerce with the Cotton Belt Railroad before continuing and retiring with Union Pacific, in 2016.
Kent will be remembered for his strong work ethic, quiet strength, and unwavering love for his family. Above all else, he was a devoted father, grandfather, and a great-grandfather who took tremendous pride in his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, riding horses and motorcycles, bird hunting, and playing the guitar with anyone he could and for anyone who would listen. He also enjoyed watching baseball, volleyball, and eating good food.
Kent was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Excel Humphries; his sister Virginia Johnson; brother in-law Bob Johnson; his sister in-law Bobbye Humphries; his son Jefferson Humphries; his granddaughter Jesse Lynn Beason; his nephew Jake Humphries and Jake’s son, Cade Humphries.
He is survived by his oldest daughter, Jodie Ann Fagan and her husband Rex Reiber, of Cumby Texas: daughters Maranda Nichole Bason, husband Michael Bason, of Grandview Tx, and Tonya McCullum and husband Lance McCullum of Sanger TX; and his great grandchildren Jack, Cash, Briggs, Ashlyn, Aiden, Levi, and Rowan.
He is also survived by his youngest daughter, Louisa Demoy Davis, her husband John Davis, of Springtown TX: children Cory Davis, Austin Davis, and Stoli Jane Davis, granddaughter in-law Traci Davis, and his great-granddaughter Aria.
He is also survived by the children of his late son, Jefferson Humphries: Leanne Blue, and Nicole Blue; and by their mother Brandi Blue and her husband Josh Blue, of Shawnee OK.
Family and Friends are invited to celebrate Kent’s life at Jones-Walker & Sons Funeral Home, Saturday, July 25 th at 2:00pm. Visitation with family and friends will begin immediately following the service.
A time of fellowship and reflections will be held immediately following the service at Los Mochi's 1600 Lee St. Commerce, TX 75428.
