Kate Mae Mangual

Kate Mae Mangual (Katie), age 55, was called home to be with the Lord on November 27, 2014, after a short but courageous battle with colon cancer.

Katie was the 11th of 13 children born to Johnnie and Tommie C. Fisher. She was raised in Austin, Texas, where she was a stand-out in high school track and field and basketball. Katie left Austin to attend Western Texas Jr. College in Snider, Texas, for two years. After receiving her associates degree from Western Texas Jr. College, she attended the University of Tulsa in Oklahoma where she received her bachelor’s degree and pursued her love of basketball with the University of Tulsa Golden Hurricanes.

After graduating from the University of Tulsa, Katie was named the head coach of the University of Tulsa Women’s Basketball Team. During Katie’s time in Tulsa, she met and married the love of her life, Jose Miguel Mangual (Joe), and their union produced two sons, Gabriel Miguel, Christopher Ryan.

Shortly after the birth of Gabriel, Katie and Joe moved to Greenville, Texas, where she continued to pursue her love of athletics by teaching and coaching at Commerce Middle School and Commerce High School. Katie’s time as a teacher and coach allowed her to positively impact the lives of the youth in her community, and it was there that they met William Keith and claimed him as their son.

Following her career as a teacher, Katie continued to positively impact lives as a dialysis technician with Davita Dialysis Center in Greenville. Katie served faithfully as a long time member of Mt. Moriah Temple Baptist Church as the Director of the Youth Department and a member of the choir. Katie was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, always putting others before herself. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandson, Gabriel Miguel Mangual, II. She was looking forward to attending her family reunion back home in Austin. Katie had a generous, loving heart and touched many lives with her presence and will forever be missed.

She is survived by her husband Joe, her sons: Gabriel, Chris and William, her beautiful grandson, Gabriel Jr., her brothers, Charles H. Fisher (Vergia), Jimmy Fisher (Joanie), John Guyton (Marsha), Ira Guyton (Jackee), Eddie Fisher, Curtis Guyton, Norris Fisher, Ted Fisher, Johnny Ray Fisher, her sisters, Doris Campbell, Gladys Jackson ( Lowell), Dorris Fowler (Arthur) and Bobbie Fisher, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Mr. Johnnie Fisher and Mrs. Tommie Fisher.
