Joyce Janelda Monk

Joyce Janelda "Jan" Monk, 88, of Como, TX, passed away on Friday, September 4, 2020, at Mother Frances Hospital in Sulphur Springs, TX.  She was born on September 24, 1931, in Snyder, TX,  to Edna Christine Gaylean and Frederick Luther Holmes. Jan received her Master of Science Degree in Nursing from Baylor University and utilized it until her retirement in 1972.  Jan was an active Bible reader who would read it at least once every year. She put what she read into practice by ministering to whoever would listen. Jan also ministered in her community as a member of the Quinlan Area Senior Citizens group and served as the Social Committee Chairperson at Rowlett Health & Rehab Center. One of her greatest blessings was spending time with her family, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.

Joyce was a very faithful woman of God who spent her life teaching the word of God.  She led many people to Jesus including her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  Her wish was to meet all her family in Heaven one day.  I believe she has accomplished this! She was a member of the Assembly of God church in Quinlan, TX. She loved the Lord with all her heart and had the ministry of intercessory prayer. Joyce’s hearts desire was to visit the Holy Land, and she was blessed at the age of 85 with the opportunity to go on a guided tour of Israel!  She was able to see every place her heart desired.  She was baptized in the Jordan River with her daughter & granddaughter, floated in the Dead Sea and sailed on the Sea of Galilee.  She followed the steps of Jesus as he carried the cross and stood in the Tomb where he rose from the dead.  Praise Jesus: her dreams finally came true! Joyce was a labor & delivery and surgical nurse and loved her career.  She worked at the Greenville Hospital and that is where she met the man of her dreams, Tim Monk.  She married Tim and joined him as he served in the Military all over the world.  She served as a nurse in many military hospitals including Germany and El Paso.  They had 5 children and returned to Texas when Tim retired from the Military.  She returned to work at the Greenville hospital and was struck by a drunk driver that unfortunately ended her career in 1972.  Even though she was in constant pain, it never stopped her.  She was a pistol!!Joyce was a very beautiful and classy woman that was always dressed to her best.  She loved jewelry and would not leave the house without all her bling! Her house was always tidy and clean, everything in its place.  Even in her 70’s she could be found up on a chair hanging curtains.  We loved our Mother, Grandmother, and Gee Gee so much.  She had the sweetest soul and was adored by her grandkids and great grandkids.  Save us a place in Heaven Gee Gee, we will see you soon. <3

She is survived by her son: Keith Monk and wife Sue of Como, Three daughters: Connie Lynne, Como; Sabrina Monk Drabing and husband Mark of Forney; and Paula Monk also of Como. Eight grandchildren also survive her: Crystal Cole and husband Brandon, Kimberly Swinger and husband Jeff, Clint Goleman, Kevin Monk and wife Kristen, Brian Monk and wife Saundea, Rebecca Monk Tubb and husband Jason, Eddie Arnold and wife Bridget, and Wade Arnold and wife Candace. Other survivors include her twenty one great grandchildren: Ariel Cole, Destiny Cole, Colton Cole, Taylor Edwards, Kinsley Swinger, Mariah Kaule, Ashlyn Goleman, Jordan Goleman Manis, Jackson Monk, Addison Monk, Carter Monk, Kate Monk, Claire Monk, Mattison Tubb, Mason Tubb, Jennifer Tubb, Aisley Tubb, Jade Tubb, Heaven Arnold, Hannah Arnold and Kolter Arnold; along with two great great grandchildren Lena Evans and Alaina Evans.
