Johnny Earl Palmer

Johnny Earl Palmer, 85, of Commerce passed away on Tuesday, December 15, 2015, in Greenville.

Johnny was born in the Horton Community on June 20, 1930, to Lorene Spring Palmer and Leon Palmer. He was married to Sylvia Lenamond Palmer. Johnny was a member of the FHA at Commerce High School. He was a coach for Mesquite Pee Wee Football and Garland Pee Wee Football; and, he was a longtime fan of the Commerce Tigers. Johnny always had a story or joke to tell and loved talking to family and friends. He was also a Choctaw Nation member.

Johnny was a proud United States Navy veteran who served during the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Sylvia of Commerce; his daughter, Tammy J. Palmer of Commerce; his son, Kirk Palmer of Carrollton; his daughter, Tina C. Carter of N. Richland Hills; his son, Johnny W. Rich of Commerce and Joseph A. Burgess of Garland; his grandchildren: Joseph A. Burgess, Brandy N. Kirby, Matthew A. Chambers, Micheal Carter, Trevor Ricci, Brookah Palmer and Jordan Palmer; and, his great-grandchildren: Nolan R. Kirby and Gretchen N. Kirby.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Lorene Palmer; and, his brothers: Rex and James Palmer.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 18, 2015, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home in Commerce.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at Church of Christ, 1900 Culver St., Commerce, TX. 75428 with David Gibson and Lyndon Petty officiating.

Pallbearers will be Johnny Rich, David Carter, Leon Summerlin, Mike Anderson, Gary Hamm, Arlan Purdy and James Spencer.
Honorary pallbearer will be Joe Burgess.

Interment with military honors will follow at Shiloh Cemetery in Klondike.
