Cindy Shamburger Thomas

Cynthia Shamburger Thomas, 67, a lifelong resident of Commerce, Texas died June 29th 2020 due to complications from COVID-19.

Her graveside service will be held at 11:00 am this Friday, July 3, 2020 at Rosemound Cemetery in Commerce, TX. Visitation will be held that morning from 9:00 am to 10:30 am at Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home.

Cindy was born on January 2, 1953 in Tacoma, Washington to William Arthur and Edna Shamburger. She graduated from Commerce High School in 1971 and received her Bachelor’s of Social Work from East Texas State University in 1991.

Cindy married Eddie Thomas on January 10, 1981 and were married for 21 years before Eddie passed away in 2002. Cindy and Eddie had two children together, Dusty and Talisha, and Cindy was also the step-mother to Eddie’s son, Sammy.

Cindy worked as a Social Worker for nearly 30 years and dedicated her life to taking care of other people both in Nursing Home and Hospice care. She spent her last few months on this earth giving one on one care to her beloved elderly people. She loved her family more than anything and enjoyed spending time with them. In her own words “God and family are the most important things in my life. My daughter Talisha is the light of my life, she is a very amazing young lady who has overcome many hardships, very intelligent and career oriented. Dusty is my son, he lives at home with me. We do have our moments, but love him with all my heart. I am a social worker for Hospice, it is very rewarding. Enjoy the outdoors and spending time with friends and family.” Cindy was considered a mom by so many people and she would give her last penny to help someone in need. She loved her nieces and nephews as they were her own and had a very special relationship with her great niece, “Tootie Ann”.

Cindy’s beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her family. She is survived by her children, Dustin Thomas of Commerce, TX, Talisha and Richard Bailey of Little Elm, TX. Her step son and daughter-in-law, Sammy and Shalea Thomas of Campbell, TX. Her brother and sister in Law, Bill and Theresa Shamburger of Fairfield, TX, her sister in Law Joanna Shamburger of Commerce, TX. Her nieces and nephews, Kyle and Brandi Shamburger of Commerce, TX, Cristan Shamburger of Rockwall, TX, Carrie Petty of Commerce, TX, Cory and Sawyer Shamburger of Ardmore, Oklahoma and Jenni Ofallon. Her great nieces and nephews Weston Shamburger, Brooklyn Hoffman, Kinsley Shamburger and Brenda Ofallon. Her step grandchildren, Zach, Triston, Samantha and Jolie Thomas and Allana Spadaro. Her God daughter, Stephanie Slough of Commerce, TX, her bonus granddaughter, Kayla Greenway, her “Oklahoma son”, Tanner Mabry and many other dear friends and bonus kids.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Thomas, her parents Arthur and Edna Shamburger, her brother Johnny Shamburger and her Mother and Father In-Law Lloyd and Oma Thomas.

The last time I talked to Cindy, it was all the fun we had together. We both agreed we were both thankful that there was no Facebook!!
One of Cindy's best traits she told you how it was and that is what I loved about her.
The world lost a BEAUTIFUL PERSON and HEAVEN gained a Beautiful Angle
Love ya girl

Cindy and Mindy were inseparable back in the day .. There are so many memories but some I cant tell .. Cindy and I were roommates off and on for 4 years ., 1975 we met .. . we lived off of Budding lunch meat she borrowed (lol) from her dads meat market ..we raised a little Cain in our days together .. we both married and had kids .. our sons Colt and Dusty were best friends too which made it even better
one story is when she and I were mad at our husbands and loaded our kids up and went riding around down dirt roads , except they were muddy roads at the time lol .. and we go stuck !! Two women and our young children putting anything and everything under the wheels to try and get it unstuck .. it was getting late and the kids were getting worried and we finally got it unstuck .. we had mud from head to toe so bad that we went to the car wash and washed not only the car but us off too .. she called me Lucy and I called her Ethel ... what one didnt think of the other one did Ill miss her so
