Brenda Ann McKinney (Brown) affectionately known as Mama Brenda was born November 5,1948, to Matthew L. Brown and Helen Brown (Mims) in Amherst, Texas. Brenda was married to Samuel R. McKinney both residing in Kansas City, Missouri. Brenda loved life, lived it well, loved her children, God child, and great grandchildren with unconditional love. She had a personality that met no strangers and was loved by many. Her career at Motorola as a Quality Control Inspector for over 25 years was an accomplishment that she was very proud of.
She graduated from Albuquerque High in 1967. Brenda was a lifetime member of Bethesda Seventh -Day Adventist Church in Albuquerque, New Mexico where she held many offices including head ushers. She followed in her father’s footsteps as a self-made businessperson and owned a business with her brother (Leroy) called B & L Sports.
In her retirement she loved making friends and going daily to the North Domingo Baca Multigenerational Center. Brenda lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico for over 60 years and in December 2024 she moved to Lee’s Summit, Missouri with her daughter. Brenda was declining in health, but she didn’t let that stop her from making several trips with her daughter and enjoying her time with her son and caregiver.
Brenda was born into a close nit family of 4 sisters (including her) and a brother. She was preceded in death by her eldest sister Barbara A. Brown Linder. She leaves to mourn her sisters Linda A. Coleman-Whose Lois (Welford) and Vada B. Brown both of California. Her brother Matthew L. Brown Jr. (Rose) of Albuquerque, NM. She was loved by all her nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
On May 28, 2025, Brenda went to sleep in her home in Lee’s Summit, MO and is waiting for Jesus to return. She leaves to mourn her husband Samuel R. McKinney, her two children Samuel McKinney Jr. Kansas City, MO and Janice R. McKinney of Lee’s Summit, MO, her three grandsons Demetrius A. McKinney of Maryland, Brandon D. McKinney of New Jersey and Tyler J. McKinney of Alabama, her God-daughter Jalecia Bouldin of Arizona, her three great granddaughters Brooklyn McKinney of Maryland, Brielle McKinney of New Jersey and Bella McKinney of New Jersey, and her favorite canine friend/great granddaughter Marley McKinney of Lee’s Summit.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Honey Grove, TX at 11:00 A. M.
