Aubrey Gene Blunt, 101, of Mesquite passed away at his residence on Thursday night, October 9, 2025. He was born as the male half of a set of twins, along with his sister, Dorothy in Cumby, Tx. on July 22, 1924, the son of Harvey E. Blunt and Bertha McDonald Blunt. Aubrey was inducted into the U.S. Army on December 2, 1943 and called into active service on December 23rd of the same year. While in the Army, Aubrey earned the rank of Sergeant and served in the 514th Field Artillery Battalion. He participated in battles and campaigns in Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe. Aubrey received decorations of the American Theater Campaign Medal, EAME Campaign Medal with 4 bronze stars, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War 2 Victory Medal during his years of service. He was honorably discharged on January 27, 1946 at the Camp Fannin Separation Center. Aubrey never married and was employed by Tom Thumb Grocery for many years following his time in the service.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at 1:00 P.M. at Cumby City Cemetery with full military honors.
